=== TINEWS ================================== TINEWS Archive #20050929.html September 29, 2005Contact: Office of Travel and Tourism Industries JUNE 2005 INTERNATIONAL VISITATION LEVELS UP EIGHT PERCENTThe U.S. Department of Commerce announced that 3.3 million international visitors traveled to the United States during June 2005, an increase of eight percent over June 2004. Arrivals were up by almost eight percent year-to-date as well. Noting the exception of the April 2005 ‘decline’, due to the shift of Easter holiday period from 2004, the U.S. has experienced growth in international visitation for 20 of the past 21 months. Overseas arrivals have grown for 21 consecutive months. TOP PORTS January – June 2005Arrivals to the USA by port-of-entry are tracked on a monthly basis. DOC has arrival data on more than 40 U.S. ports of entry from all world regions and 30 countries. A brief analysis is presented on the top 15 ports for overseas arrivals during 2005. Overseas arrivals were up seven percent for the first six months of 2005. Arrivals through the top 15 ports of entry accounted for 86 percent of all overseas arrivals. The top three ports of entry (New York JFK, Miami and Los Angeles) accrued 38 percent of all overseas arrivals, up one percentage point from the market share registered in 2004. All top fifteen ports posted increases in arrivals for the first six months of 2005. JFK, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington Dulles and Boston airports all registered double digit increases. In 2005 Chicago O’Hare moved to sixth position, ahead of San Francisco.
