Tourism Industries is working with the American Association of Airport Executives and others to participate in the September 30-October 3, 2001, U.S./Europe/Canada Airports and Tourism Development Workshop in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Croatia Airlines, Dubrovnik Airport, U.S. Embassy-Croatia, American Association of Airport Executives, International Association of Airport Executives, and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Tourism Industries, sponsor the workshop. The registration fee for the workshop is $435.00. The conference will be held at the Hotel Croatia in Cavtat at: http://www.hoteli-croatia.hr/

Why attend this conference? Travel to and from Europe from the United States is the largest long haul air travel markets for the region. In 2000, there were 11.6 million travelers from Europe to the United States. These visitors spent $34.8 billion on travel and passenger fares in 2000. Likewise, U.S. travel to Europe in 2000 generated 13.4 million travelers who spent $37.5 billion in Europe. To enter the United States or Europe, the airport is a key element in the visitor equation, but it is the destination they come to see. Both are important in facilitating travel between the U.S. and Europe, and unfortunately, far too often the airport authorities and the destinations do not see the extra power of working together. This workshop will address how airports and the tourism industry can work together as partners. There will be detailed presentations and case studies that both airports and tourism industry businesses can learn from in order to increase the flow of tourism dollars to their regions.
