This year, the National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) is honored to have a committed Fellowship Advisory Committee of current fellows that works closely with NCER’s Conference Planning Committee team.  The schedule format for the 2008 EPA/AAAS Graduate Fellowship Program Expo will be slightly different from the past.  This year it is being held as a joint effort between the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the EPA Science Forum.  The event at AAAS will be held on May 19, 2008, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  On May 20–22, 2008, the EPA Science Forum will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, Washington, DC.  The EPA STAR Graduate Fellows also are encouraged to participate in the Science Forum Technology Expo as well as other Forum activities being offered at the Ronald Reagan Building.

Please register for the 2008 EPA/AAAS Graduate Fellowship Program Expo no later than February 22, 2008. You may wish to read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) before registering.

Registration for the EPA Science Forum:
You will need to register separately for the EPA Science Forum. Please use the Science Forum Registration Page to register for the event. Once you register online, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with additional logistical information.  If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, please contact Alina Martin (SAIC) at tcs-events@saic.com.

Fellows are highly encouraged to attend the AAAS event, and also should attend at least 1 day of the Science Forum.  Fellows may lodge with family, friends, or at one of the nearby hotels.  A list of hotels is provided for your convenience.

On Sunday, May 18, 2008, there will be an optional meet and greet at a local tavern. NCER will provide information about this gathering on this web site prior to the conference. Please note that NCER staff will not be available on Sunday evening.  No advance reservations are necessary to attend this event.  This is an informal gathering for those fellows who wish to network on the first day of arrival.

There will be onsite registration for last-minute conference participants from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008.  However, participants are encouraged to pre-register so that NCER can accurately obtain an estimate of the number of conference attendees.

NCER’s staff Gladys Cobbs-Green (cobbs-green@epa.gov), Ted Just (just.ted@epa.gov), and Emma Roach(roach.emma@epa.gov) are the lead NCER organizers for this important event and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.  Please contact them via e-mail if you have any questions.

In 2009, NCER will return to its former conference format.  Fellow attendance and participation will be mandatory.  The traditional setting and structure of the conference will remain the same as in previous years.  The conference is scheduled for September 27–29, 2009.  More information about the 2009 conference will be posted in the spring of 2008.
