The Department of Commerce maintains an active role in protecting the privacy of both persons and businesses. The Privacy Provisions (Section 208) of the E-Government Act of 2002 establish requirements for the maintenance and security of privacy information maintained on agency information technology (IT) systems. The Commerce Office of the Chief Information Officer provides guidance and resources to help users understand these requirements and how they are implemented in the Department of Commerce IT Privacy Policy.
