Krista L. Edwards

As the PHMSA Deputy Administrator, Krista Edwards' responsibilities include:

Assisting the PHMSA Administrator in the discharge of the Administrator's responsibilities.
Serving as PHMSA's Chief Operating Officer and assisting the Administrator in the overall executive direction of the agency's headquarters and field personnel operations.
Acting on matters not requiring the personal attention of the Administrator and ensures PHMSA's program activities are administered in a fair and equitable manner.

Edwards joined the Department of Transportation as PHMSA's first politically appointed Chief Counsel in May 2006, after 18 years in the private practice of law.

Before joining the department, Edwards was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Sidley Austin, LLP, where she was a member of the firm's Transportation and Employment and Labor practice groups.

Edwards received her J.D., with honors, from Northwestern University School of Law in 1988, and a B.A. with honors, from Northern Illinois University, in 1984. She and her husband live in Arlington, Virginia with their three children.
