RESEARCH REVIEW OF POTENTIAL SAFETY EFFECTS OF
ELECTRONIC BILLBOARDS ON DRIVER ATTENTION AND DISTRACTION

FHWA's Human Centered System Team (HCST) conducted a literature review to investigate what is already known about electronic billboards and their relationship to roadway and highway safety. The purpose of this research effort was to review literature on the safety implications of electronic billboards and assess the practices in use by States. FHWA Office of Real Estate Services and FHWA Office of Safety sponsored the research effort. The Office of Transportation Operations also has a potential interest in this research.
