MOVES - HVI Demonstration Version - Installation Overview

Please verify that you have administrative rights on your computer. Several MOVES tools require administrative rights to install and run.

The Java and MySQL installers are intended for computers that do not currently have Java or MySQL installed. If you are running older versions of MySQL and Java, you will need to upgrade your software packages. MOVES has not been tested with newer versions of Java. It has been tested with MySQL 4.0 and MySQL 5.0.

Software Requirements

Windows 2000 or higher system
Java 1.4.2 SDK
MySQL 4.0 or higher, (MySQL 5.0 is provided and recommended)
MySQL Connection ODBC 3.51
MySQL Query Browser (recommended)

Installation

Please install the MOVES tools in the following order. If you are installing from a CD these instructions point you to directories which contain the executable installation programs; if you have downloaded the installation materials from the EPA web site the executable installation programs will be located where you placed the downloads.

Java 1.4.2
  1. If you are installing from a CD, go to the directory Java 1.4.2.
  2. Double click on the Java SDK installer (j2sdk-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe).
  3. Follow the installer's instructions.
MySQL 5.0

Note: EPA’s NMIM model does not currently operate with MySQL 5.0. An update to NMIM is planned to enable this.

  1. Open MySQL5Setup.pdf by using Adobe Reader (you need to consult it while installing MySQL 5). The pdf file should be in \MySQL5 directory on CD or at the location where you download the MySQL Installer.
  2. Open a DOS command prompt by going to the start menu, clicking on run, typing cmd and hitting enter.
  3. Change directory to MySQL directory "MySQL5". For example, if you are using an install CD on D drive, type D: <<Press Enter key>>
    cd MySQL5 <<Press Enter key>>
  4. Type setup.exe <<Press Enter key>>
  5. Refer to MySQL5Setup.pdf and follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. After completion, exit MySQL 5 setup.exe program if it does not automatically exit.
  7. Return to DOS command prompt (should be in directory "MySQL5")
  8. Type startMySQL.bat <<Press Enter key>>
  9. Type grantMySQL.bat <<Press Enter key>>

MySQL Connection ODBC 3.51 (optional tool)
  1. If you are installing from a CD, go to the directory MySQL Connection ODBC 3.51.
  2. Double click on the installer (mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.14-win32.msi).
  3. Follow the installer's instructions.
MySQL Query Browser (optional but recommended tool)
  1. If you are installing from a CD, go to the directory MySQL Query Browser.
  2. Double click on the installer (mysql-query-browser-1.1.20-win.msi).
  3. Follow the installer's instructions.

Note: When running after installation, the MySQL Query Browser will prompt for a server name, user name, password, etc. On a clean system with MySQL recently installed, simply enter "localhost" for the server name and click "OK". Another popup will then appear complaining that a "default schema" has not been selected. Just click "Ignore" on this.

MOVES-HVI
  1. If you are installing from a CD, go to the MOVES_HVI directory.
  2. Double click on MOVESInstallationPackage.jar.
  3. Follow the installer's instructions.
