Footwear, Leather and Leather Products

Trade and Tariffs

This sector includes footwear, travel goods and a variety of other leather products. Footwear, leather and leather products accounted for 0.08 percent of total U.S. industrial exports to Australia in 2003, totaling $9.5 million. The top U.S. exports in this sector are sports footwear and work footwear. Australia’s tariffs range between zero and 15 percent with an average of 3.3 percent in 2003.

Australian exports to the United States totaled $9.6 million in 2003, or 0.17 percent of total exports to the United States. Australia’s top exports to the United States are saddlery, leather apparel, and footwear. The United States’ tariffs range between zero and 51 percent.

Tariff Elimination

Both sides will eliminate tariffs in two staging categories immediately and 10 year linear staging.

Overall, 94 percent of U.S. exports in this sector will be duty-free immediately. Tariffs on six percent of U.S. exports will be eliminated over 10 years.
