Trade and Tariffs

The Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft is an important part of the aerospace sector, covering the majority of aerospace products traded in Australia. Civil aircraft equipment accounted for 24 percent of total U.S. exports to Australia in 2003, totaling $3 billion. The top U.S. exports in this sector are airplanes, radar equipment and aircraft parts including engines. Australia’s tariffs range between zero and 15 percent with an average of 5.2 percent in 2003.

Australian exports to the United States totaled $203 million in 2003, or 3.5 percent of total exports to the United States. Australia’s top exports in this sector are airplane and helicopter parts, aircraft engine parts, and compressors. The United States is a signatory of the Civil Aircraft Agreement and maintains a zero duty on this sector.

Tariff Elimination

Australia will eliminate all tariffs on civil aircraft equipment immediately upon implementation of the agreement.
