Fish and Fish Products

Trade and Tariffs

The fish sector includes processed and unprocessed fish products contained in chapters 3 and 16 of the Harmonized Tariff System. Fish accounted for 1.4 percent of total non-textile industrial U.S. exports to Bahrain in 2002. Prepared or preserved lobster, fish, shrimp and prawns lead U.S. exports in this sector.

U.S. fish imports from Bahrain were less than $0.1 million in 2002 , or approximately 0.1 percent of total U.S. non-textile industrial imports from Bahrain. The United States imposes tariffs on fish of 0.0 to 35.0 percent, with an average of 2.0 percent for the sector. The highest tariffs are applied to processed tuna.

Tariff Elimination

Both sides will eliminate duties on imports of nearly all fish and related products from the other Party immediately upon implementation of the agreement. The tariff on one non-traded item, non-smoked sardines, will be eliminated over ten years.
