About GSA A Message from the Administrator

Jim Williams
Acting Administrator
Welcome to gsa.gov, the official website of the U.S. General Services Administration.
This website is your online pathway to GSA, the lead acquisition arm of the federal government. Our mission is to help other agencies better serve the public by meeting – at best value – their needs for products and services, and to simplify citizen access to government information and services.

Please take advantage of our user-friendly homepage, expanded content, improved navigation, and customized search engine. All are intended to make our website more valuable and user-friendly. Similarly, changes are underway at GSA that will help us proactively meet the needs of our client agencies, including their environmental mandates. This is, in short, an exciting and challenging time at GSA as we:

- Continue GSA’s business resurgence.
- Ensure a smooth Presidential transition.
- Help client agencies meet requirements of the Presidential Environmental Executive  Order and related legislation.
- Promote Telework government-wide and meet GSA telework goals.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure that GSA maximizes its role as a central acquisition agency.
- And continue to improve GSA’s Office of Emergency Response and Recovery.

Our Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2007-2012 charts a course for GSA to provide superior supplies, services and workplace solutions as we strive to better meet our client agencies' multiple workplace needs. Our agency-wide goals have also been modified to reflect a new level of commitment to our customers and the American public.

Our goals are:
Stewardship – Leading federal agencies in economical and efficient management of federal assets by spearheading effective policy development and exemplary management of the buildings/workspace, motor vehicles, and personal property provided by GSA;
Superior Workplaces – Delivering and maintaining productive workplaces consisting of office space, furnishings, technology, supplies, and related services;
Best Value – Developing and delivering timely, accurate and cost-effective acquisition services and business solutions; and,
Innovation – Developing new and better ways of conducting business resulting in more productive and effective federal policies and administrative operations.

With this plan, GSA has acknowledged the challenges that face us and charted a course for excellence in the business of government. Our goals also align with President Bush’s challenge for all federal agencies to find new, smarter and greener ways to do business and make the public sector more effective. That’s good all around. It saves money, enables us to better serve our customers, and moves us toward the President’s vision of government that is citizen-centered and results oriented.

Our work in electronic government has earned high honors. The Brookings Institution has ranked gsa.gov number three among all federal web sites, and USA.gov, the GSA-managed official Internet portal of the U.S. government, as the top federal site.

I hope you agree that gsa.gov meets President Bush’s directive to use electronic government to provide citizens with timely, accurate, and consistent information about government services and operations. I also hope you agree our website reflects the important changes currently underway at GSA, and that you find it a valuable resource in directing you to the GSA products, services, public and policy information you seek. Thank you for visiting gsa.gov.
