Information Technology Products

Trade and Tariffs

This sector is defined by products include within the World Trade Organization’s Information Technology Agreement (ITA).

Information technology products accounted for 36.9 percent of average U.S industrial exports to Korea in 2003-2005, totaling $9.2 billion. The top U.S. exports in this sector include digital integrated circuitry, particle accelerators, and machinery for semiconductors production.

Korean exports to the United States in this sector averaged $14.8 billion in 2003-2005, or 39 percent of total Korean industrial exports to the United States. Top Korean exports in this sector include radio transmitters, digital integrated circuitry, and computers.

Tariff Elimination

As parties to the WTO Information Technology Agreement, the United States and Korea will continue to apply duty free treatment to these products.

Non-Tariff Barriers

Korea will eliminate its prohibition on the importation of remanufactured information technology products, as defined in Chapter Six - Rules of Origin, on entry into force of the Agreement.
