Initiating a Simultaneous Close Parallel ILS/PRM or LDA/PRM Approach
All pilots must complete special training before initiating a simultaneous close parallel ILS/PRM or LDA/PRM approach. Pilot training requirements are referenced in FAA Order 8900.1, Flight Standards Information Management System (FSIMS).
From the FSIMS Table of Contents, refer to Volume 3, Chapter 18, Section 5 Part C Operations Specifications (Refer to OpSpec C052).
- For operations under Parts 121, 129, or 135, and Part 91 operations involving transport category aircraft, pilots must comply with approved company training policies and must view the FAA video ILS PRM and SOIA Approaches: Information for Air Carrier Pilots, if they have not previously viewed an FAA video on this subject.
Note: At PRM/SOIA locations, there is one ILS/PRM and one LDA/PRM approach. All pilots, except those flying non-transport category general aviation aircraft, must view the FAA video, ILS PRM and SOIA Approaches: Information for Air Carrier Pilots, prior to conducting the LDA/PRM approach at these locations. - Part 91 operations not involving transport category aircraft are required to know PRM operations requirements as outlined in the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), Chap. 5-4-16.
