About the Industry

> The U.S. trucking industry is comprised of more than 214,000 for-hire carriers and more than 276,000 private carriers, 95.9 percent with fewer than 20 trucks.

> The trucking industry exclusively serves of 80 percent of all communities in the U.S. for the products and goods they receive. 

In 2006, commercial trucks consumed nearly 54 billion gallons of diesel fuel and gasoline.

By the year 2018, the trucking industry will haul 70 percent of total U.S. freight tonnage.


 

ATA Gives Details of Bold Highway Safety Agenda, Releases Task Force Report

Barbara WindsorAmerican Trucking Associations’ Board of Directors adopted a bold highway safety agenda designed to reduce the number of highway-related fatalities and injuries for all drivers on the nation’s highways.

Augmenting an established platform of successful safety initiatives, ATA outlined 18 critical steps for further reducing highway crashes among all motorists. The recommendations were made by ATA’s Safety Task Force, Chaired by Barbara Windsor, President and CEO of Hahn Transportation. Article Continued... 

ATA Announces Road Team Finalists

America's Road TeamThe American Trucking Associations recently named 36 professional truck drivers as finalists in the selection process to become Captains on the 2009-2010 America’s Road Team. The 36 professional truck drivers will now move on to the final round of the selection process, which will be held Jan. 11-13, 2009 at the ATA headquarters in Arlington, Va.  Article Continued...
