Reports In Print?
All Census Bureau reports since 1996 on have been released online in PDF free for customers to download; some reports from key earlier series (e.g., the 1990 Census of Population and Housing and the 1992 Economic Census) also are online in PDF. To access these reports, you can click on the link to Publications on the Census Bureau home page.
Still some customers prefer data in printed form. Although the Census Bureau produces many fewer reports in print than in years past, users still have many print options.
- Free single copies. Some reports are available free from the Customer Services Center.
- Some reports must be purchased from the U.S. Government Printing Office, or the National Technical Information Service. This includes mainly the Statistical Abstract of the United States, the detailed reports based on Census 2000, and assorted other reports like the Quarterly Financial Report and the Market Absorption of Apartments.
The Census Bureau's Customer Services Center sells a few printed reports most notably the Census of Governments reports and the American Housing Survey reports.
Most reports are sold as print-on-demand publications by the Customer Services Center, notably the reports based on the Economic Census, County Business Patterns, the Consolidated Federal Funds Report, and the Annual Survey of Manufactures. The prices of these reports are determined by the page count (See Guide to Print-on-Demand Prices).
