Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Effective

This is the highest rating a program can achieve. Programs rated Effective set ambitious goals, achieve results, are well-managed and improve efficiency.
  • The purpose of the program is clear and the design is free of major flaws. The program uses a comprehensive priority methodology system that identifies locations that have the highest need for a new or replacement health care facility and ensures that the facilities are constructed properly.
  • The program has contributed to the Indian Health Service's achievement of long-term goals. Three years after being opened, a sample of replacement facilities constructed by this program reduced years of potential life lost--a measure to gauge overall health.
  • The program has developed facility-specific annual performance measures. These measures add insight into the role of new facilities in expanding access to critical health services which impact health outcomes.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Ensuring that performance goals factor in past performance and encourage continued improvement each year.
  • Reviewing the revised Health Care Priority System.
  • Comparing IHS construction costs with industry standards.
