Careers in the Private Railroad Industry

The FRA does not have authority over the hiring practices and procedures of the private railroad industry, including Amtrak. In order to obtain employment information concerning positions such as Locomotive Engineer, Conductor, Yardmasters Mechanical Supervisor, Carmen, Track Worker and Signal Maintainer, or other positions typical found in the private railroad industry, applicants should contact the individual railroad carriers directly. The names and addresses of railroad companies located throughout the United States can be found in the Pocket List of Railroad Officials. The Pocket List of Railroad Officials is published quarterly, and most public libraries maintain a copy of this publication.
