Stakeholder Involvement

The stakeholders involved in this initiative include:

  • State and local 9-1-1 agencies
  • Public safety and emergency management agencies
  • Telecommunications industry
  • Information technology industry
  • Emergency services industry
  • Federal departments, including Transportation, Commerce, Homeland Security, Justice and the Federal Communications Commission
  • National organizations with active interests in 9-1-1
  • IT research community
  • Standards community

The role of the U.S. Department of Transportation in the NG9-1-1 program is to facilitate the involvement of the appropriate stakeholders in the process of developing an architecture an migration plan for NG9-1-1. The fundamental approach within the NG9-1-1 program is to integrate, consolidate, and build upon the work already done or underway by other entities. DOT is engaging a diverse set of stakeholders by leveraging on-going activities, including Secretary Mineta's Wireless E9-1-1 Initiative, FCC's Network Reliability and Interoperability Council (NRIC), the National Emergency Number Association's NG E9-1-1 Program.

How Can I Get Involved?

The NG9-1-1 program is providing opportunities for stakeholders to engage in the program throughout the span of the Initiative. Multiple approaches will be necessary to ensure sufficient completeness and stakeholder involvement. Awareness will be created using a variety of strategies. Planned interactive events include stakeholder workshops and open forums, interviews, proactive web site engagement, and other data collection efforts. To get involved, contact Laurie Flaherty.
