Title:Audit Initiated of FAA’s Hazardous Materials Program
Date:May 13, 2003
Type:Announcement
Summary:We began an audit of FAA’s Hazardous Materials Program to determine whether: (1) FAA’s execution of the program is adequate to ensure industry’s compliance with hazmat regulations; and (2) shippers, indirect air carriers, and air carriers are complying with hazmat requirements. We also plan to review FAA’s involvement in the security of hazmat air shipments. Air carriers, shippers, and repair stations must follow hazardous materials regulations when shipping hazardous materials. To ensure compliance, FAA special agents periodically do inspections and also conduct investigations of possible violations.
