December 19, 2007 U.S. Department of Transportation Seeks Technology Solutions to Improve Safety and Reduce Congestion on Nation's Roadways
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) today issued a request for information (RFI) to private industry, research organizations, and state and local governments seeking information about commercially available technology applications designed to fight congestion and improve the safety and performance of the nation’s transportation system.
December 18, 2007 October 2007 Passenger Airline Employment Up 3.5 Percent from October 2006
U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 3.5 percent more workers in October 2007 than in October 2006, the ninth consecutive increase in full-time equivalent employee (FTE) levels for the scheduled passenger carriers from the same month of the previous year, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today.  FTE calculations count two part-time employees as one full-time employee.
December 17, 2007 Third-Quarter 2007 System Airline Financial Data: Passenger Airlines Report Most Profitable Third Quarter Since 1999
A group of 20 selected passenger airlines reported a system operating profit margin of 8.2 percent in the third quarter of 2007, the highest third quarter profit margin since 1999 and the first time since 2000 that airlines have had six consecutive profitable quarters, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation reported today in a release of preliminary data. The 20-carrier group consists of the seven largest network, low-cost and regional carriers based on operating revenue.
December 13, 2007 September 2007 Airline Traffic Data: Nine-Month 2007 System Traffic Up 3.6 Percent From 2006
U.S. airlines carried 582.0 million scheduled domestic and international passengers on their systems during the first nine months of 2007, 3.6 percent or 20 million more passengers than they did during the same period in 2006, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today reported in a release of preliminary data.

August 6, 2007 Airline On-Time Performance Slips, Cancellations and Mishandled Bags Up in June
The nation’s largest airlines recorded a lower rate of on-time flights and a higher rate of mishandled baggage and canceled flights this past June than during either this past May or the previous June, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).  The report also shows that consumer complaints against air carriers rose in June compared to the same previous months.

January 17, 2007 November 2006 Passenger Airline Employment Down 1.6 Percent from November 2005
U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 1.6 percent fewer workers in November 2006 than in November 2005, the smallest drop since February 2005 in full-time equivalent employee (FTE) levels for the scheduled passenger carriers from the same month of the previous year, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported today.  FTE calculations count two part-time employees as one full-time employee.
