Title:FAA Has Opportunities To Reduce Academy Training Time and Costs by Increasing Educational Requirements for Newly Hired Air Traffic Controllers
Date:December 07, 2005
Type:Audit
Project ID:AV-2006-021
Summary:On December 7, 2005, we issued our final report on our audit of FAA’s training process for newly hired air traffic controllers. We found that FAA could reduce training time and costs by identifying specific coursework conducted at the FAA Academy that could be discontinued and instead made a prerequisite to employment as an FAA controller. We recommended that FAA identify specific coursework that could be made a prerequisite to employment as an air traffic controller. We also recommended that FAA include that determination in the next update to FAA’s Controller Workforce Plan.
