Title:DOT Use of Government Credit Cards
Date:September 24, 2001
Type:Audit
Project ID:FI-2001-095
Summary:Purchases made using DOT credit cards and convenience checks were, in general, reasonable, valid, and received by the Department, we found in our review of 785 DOT credit card and convenience check transactions totaling about $1.2 million. However, internal controls were weak for verifying purchases, identifying purchases that were split to avoid credit card limits, and performing reviews of card use within FAA. There were three instances of fraud (one because the card number was stolen) and violations of DOT policy and internal control procedures.
