MSHA to hire mine inspectors for positions in Arizona and Montana Employment screenings will be held on March 8 and 9 in Mesa, Ariz.
ARLINGTON, Va. - The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is seeking to hire new federal mine inspectors for positions in Mesa, Ariz., and Helena, Mont. Applicant screenings for these positions will be held on March 8 and 9 in Mesa at the Hampton Inn. Interested citizens who have not previously registered via MSHA's Web site are welcome to attend, subject to space availability.
"MSHA is interested in hiring professionals who are willing to help our agency keep U.S. mines safe by preventing accidental injuries and fatalities," said Richard E. Stickler, acting assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health. "MSHA needs motivated individuals eager to help us continue to protect our nation's miners."
Everyone attending the applicant screenings should bring a completed resume and photo identification. Check the MSHA Web site at www.msha.gov to confirm the status of the screenings before traveling to the site.
All applicants will be notified of test results. Selected candidates will participate in a formal two-year training program. Successful candidates for the GS-9 level should be able to perform arduous duties and can expect a starting annual salary of about $45,000. In addition to a 40-hour workweek with generous annual, sick and holiday leave, selected candidates are offered health, life and long-term care insurance; a stable retirement program, including a tax-deferred savings plan; travel reimbursement; and flexible spending accounts for medical and dental expenses.
The employment screenings will be held at the Hampton Inn located at 1563 S. Gilbert Road in Mesa. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and testing will begin at 8 a.m. MST.
MSHA is the federal agency charged with inspection of mining operations nationwide for adherence to regulations designed to protect the safety and health of working miners.
