ARLINGTON, Va. - The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will conduct one-day workshops for all qualified MSHA instructors and independent contractor instructors who provide mandatory new miner and annual refresher training for coal miners. Workshops will take place on Feb. 20, 21 and 22 at the West Virginia Mining Extension Services Academy for Mine Training and Energy Technologies, 2870 Little Indian Creek Road, Core, W.Va.

This workshop is designed to assist mine safety instructors in complying with 30 Code of Federal Regulations Part 48, which requires mandatory training for coal miners and contractors working at or being hired to work at coal mines, as well as for visitors to mining operations.

Workshop hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST. Pre-registration is required, and each session is limited to 25 participants per day. Registration will close Feb. 1.

Qualified MSHA-approved instructors interested in attending may register by contacting Jerry Vance at vance.jerry@dol.gov or Cindy Shumiloff at shumiloff.cynthia@dol.gov, or by calling 304-225-6854 or 304-225-6853. Directions to the facility will be provided.
