The International Association Of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental And Reinforcing Iron Workers

- The Iron Workers Union and MSHA have been working together since 2000, when 32 Iron Workers Union members attended classes at MSHA's Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beckley, West Virginia, to become instructors under the Mine Safety and Health Act. The Iron Workers worked with MSHA to develop training materials and a plan, and now about 160 ironworker instructors are approved instructors. They in turn have trained more than 2,000 ironworkers to work at surface and underground mine sites around the country.
- The Iron Workers Union and their Employers through the National Ironworkers and Employers Apprenticeship Training and Journeyman Upgrading Fund provide highly skilled contract workers who work in the mining industry and many other industries across the Nation. The Iron Workers Union has the same stated goals as MSHA for worker safety and health. The Alliance provides a formal framework for MSHA and the Iron Workers Union to work together to improve worker health and safety.
- MSHA and the Iron Workers Union will also spread the word, share the results of our partnership, and gather input from others interested in workplace safety and health. We will convene or participate in forums, round table discussions and stakeholder meetings to gather more information about what others are doing and together forge innovative solutions.
