Lumber and Wood

Trade and Tariffs

This sector is defined by the Wood Uruguay Round sectoral agreement. Lumber and wood products accounted for 0.22 percent of total U.S. industrial exports to Australia in 2003, totaling $27 million. The top U.S. exports in this sector are barrels, lumber and miscellaneous other wood items. Australia’s tariffs range between zero and five percent, with an average of 3.6 percent in 2003.

Australian exports to the United States totaled $17 million in 2003, or 0.30 percent of total exports to the United States. Australia’s top exports to the United States are: wood panels, lumber and fiberboard. The U.S. tariffs range between zero and eight percent with an average of 5.2 percent.

Tariff Elimination

Both Australia and the United States will eliminate all tariffs on lumber and wood products immediately upon implementation of the agreement.
