| Summary: | Conrail agreed to pay $3.5 million to the U.S. Government in a settlement agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia, PA. The freight railroad admitted to underreporting track usage miles for its use of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor track. Amtrak owns the track and leases it to freight carriers. In 1986, Conrail and Amtrak entered into an agreement in which Conrail agreed to pay Amtrak on a per-car, per-mile basis for use of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor track, which extends from Washington, D.C., to Boston, MA. |
