Title:Waste Hauler Pleads Guilty to Billing Fraud In Public Corruption Case

Summary:Fales Trucking, Inc., a waste hauling company located in Easton, CT pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in New Haven, CT, to charges of mail fraud as part of ongoing investigation of public corruption in Bridgeport, CT. Between October 1999 and June 2000, the company received $104,000 in Federal Transit Administration grant funds through the city for removing and disposing of 1,860 tons of contaminated soil allegedly from the construction site of a municipal hockey arena, parking garage and intermodal transit center. The soil was actually from sites in Norwalk, CT and New York City. As part of a plea agreement, Fales agreed to pay $104,000 in restitution. Sentencing is set for November 9. OIG investigated the case with FBI, the Internal Revenue Service and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.
