Title:Corporation Fined for Illegally Transporting Hazardous Waste

Summary:MHI, Inc. the corporate owner of Lauderdale Yacht Basin in Fort Lauderdale, FL pled guilty and was sentenced in U.S. District Court to charges of transporting hazardous waste without a permit. The marina transported approximately six 65-gallon containers of ignitable waste, including paint thinners and acetones used to clean and refurbish boats. The judge ordered $50,000 in community service payments with $25,000 each to the Environmental Investigations Units of the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Broward County Sheriff’s Department. OIG investigated the case with EPA-CID, DCIS, FBI and Broward County Sheriff’s Office and the Miami-Dade Police Department.
