Title:Two Former Executives of Major Road Construction Company Plead Guilty to Witness Tampering

Summary:William J. Cowhig, Executive Vice President, and Luigi Iuliano, General Sales Manager for Aggregate Industries Northwest Region, Inc., Saugus, MA, pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Boston to witness tampering in connection with bid-rigging on six stone supply contracts totaling about $160,000. Four of the contracts were let by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, a DOT grantee. Suspensions issued by FHWA in September 2003 for Cowhig and Iuliano remain in effect. Sentencing for both individuals is scheduled for April 6, 2005.
