Title:Ohio Bridge Inspector Convicted Under Ongoing Investigation Targeting Bridge Painting Projects

Summary:Elwood Clark, an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) inspector was found guilty in U.S. District Court, Akron, OH, on two counts of making false statements on a Federal-aid highway project. Clark, one of six ODOT inspectors charged in a bribery and corruption scam involving multiple bridge painting contractors, was indicted in September 2004 for allegedly receiving improper cash payments in exchange for not performing required comprehensive inspections of bridge painting work. Sentencing for Clark is scheduled for February 24, 2005; four other ODOT inspectors have been sentenced to date. The investigation is being conducted jointly with the FBI.
