Title:Guilty Plea in South Florida HazMat Case

Summary:Liliana Guzman-Haynes, of Chicago, IL, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami to a one-count criminal information filed on April 6 charging her with illegally storing nitric acid and toluene, both hazardous wastes and harmful to public health and safety under certain circumstances. Guzman-Haynes worked in the freight forwarding business, first at Olympic International Freight Forwarders, Inc., as its president, and later at World Cargo, Inc. OIG investigated this case with the EPA-CID, Dade County Environmental Resources Management, Environmental Crimes Unit, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Miami-Dade Police Department. Sentencing is set for June 25.
