| Summary: | The IG initiated an audit of the Department’s efforts to ensure that all communities which received scheduled air service before the September 11 terrorist attacks continue to receive adequate air transportation service and that essential air service to small communities continues without interruption. Under the Air Transportation Safety and System Stabilization Act, the Secretary can require an air carrier receiving financial assistance under the Act to maintain scheduled air service to any point the carrier served before September 11, 2001. |
