| Summary: | Elik Burshstein, a dispatcher and maintenance worker for Petroleum Asset Management Corporation (PAMC) of West Islip, NY, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, NY, for making false statements concerning the inspection status of a hazardous-material tanker truck involved in a fatality. He was fined $3,000 and placed on 3 years’ probation, including 6 months of home confinement. In September 2000, the PAMC truck was involved in a collision in Central Islip, Long Island, NY, in which a 62-year-old woman was killed. During the ensuing investigation, the company presented three apparently forged inspection certificates for the tanker to FMCSA. Burshstein falsely told OIG agents that in 1999 he had sent the truck to an inspection company. |
