Title:Subcontractor Agrees to $135,000 Settlement in False Claims Case
Date:August 22, 2002
Type:Investigation
Summary:William Sperbeck, of Wellesley, MA, during the third week of his trial for civil fraud in U.S. District Court in Boston, agreed to pay the U.S. Government $135,000 for fraudulent claims he made against a contract administered by RSPA’s Volpe Center. Sperbeck was the sole proprietor of Logistics Information Systems (LIS), in Wellesley, MA, a now-defunct software development company that was a subcontractor on a Volpe Center prime contract. LIS billed the prime contractor for work performed by employees who did not have the education or experience the contract specified. All employees were also paid significantly less than figures that LIS submitted during contract negotiations.
