Title:Repair Station Owner Jailed for Making Illegal Repairs on Military Planes
Date:April 05, 2002
Type:Investigation
Summary:John J. Dimattei, owner of Mohawk Aviation, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, was sentenced to a year in jail by a U.S. District Court judge in West Palm Beach, FL, for falsifying documents involving repairs to military aircraft. Falsely portraying Mohawk as an FAA-certified repair station, Dimattei completed repairs to FMS 800 switching units on military aircraft. In fact, Mohawk was not a certified repair station and was not authorized to do the repairs. Dimattei was also fined $10,000 and ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution. OIG investigated this case with the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.
