Date:November 19, 2001
Type:Investigation
Summary:Granja Construction, Inc, Arlington, VA, and its owner, Carlos Granja, pleaded guilty to bribery charges in US District Court, Alexandria, VA. Granja was involved in a scheme with officials of the District of Columbia Department of Public Works to overstate the amount of concrete and asphalt delivered to FHWA funded DC road-building projects. The company would deliver a load of construction materials to projects and the DPW employee would issue a receipt for more materials than were actually delivered.
