Title:Two More Plea Guilty in Miami Airport Security Case
Date:October 17, 2001
Type:Investigation
Summary:Two more former employees at Miami International Airport—Samuel Perez and Isabel Veizaga—pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami, FL, to obtaining airport security badges under false pretenses. They were among 12 illegal aliens charged on September 14 with making false security badges. The badges gave them illegal access to secure areas, including the airport tarmac ramp and baggage areas. Veizaga and Perez have been in jail since their arrest and will be sentenced in January 2002. So far, 11 of the 12 have been arrested, 4 have pleaded guilty, and 3 have been ordered deported. OIG is investigating the case with the U.S. Customs Service.
