Title:Guilty Plea in False Statements Case
Date:May 23, 2001
Type:Investigation
Summary:Roy E. Clennin, owner of Clennin Ranch Trucking (CRT), pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Pueblo, CO to unlawful possession of firearms and to falsifying driver logbooks. Clennin was indicted by a Federal grand jury in December, 2000, on charges of violating Federal hours of service regulations and being a felon in possession of firearms. At the request of FMCSA, OIG initiated an investigation of alleged violations of federal laws limiting the amount of hours truck drivers can spend behind the wheel without rest. A search of CRT's offices by OIG special agents uncovered 15 firearms in Clennin's possession. Since Clennin was a convicted felon, he could not legally possess firearms. OIG investigated this case with the FBI and FMCSA.
