Title:FAA Safety Manager Pleads Guilty to False Statement on FAA Application
Date:November 27, 2006
Type:Investigation
Summary:On November 27, John R. Black, an aviation safety program manager in FAA's Spokane, WA Flight Standards District Office, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Spokane, WA, to making a false statement on his 2004 airman medical application. Black failed to disclose a doctor's visit on a form required by the FAA. This omission was material because it would have revealed Black's use of a number of disqualifying medications. FAA considered Black a "national resource" pilot for the Falcon jet because of his knowledge and expertise with this type of aircraft. His duties include conducting proving flights for Falcon jet pilots approximately once a month. Black has resigned from the FAA.
