Date:December 07, 2005
Type:Investigation
Summary:On December 7, Jose Miguel Basto, a third-party commercial motor vehicle safety inspector in Hialeah, FL, pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami to one felony charge of making material false statements. Periodic inspections of commercial motor vehicles help protect the safety of the traveling public. Sentencing is scheduled for February 15, 2006. This case was investigated jointly with FMCSA and the Florida Department of Transportation, which are in the process of identifying all vehicles inspected by Basto for potential re-inspection.
