Title:Florida Intermodal Transportation Company to Pay $305,000 for Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Violations

Summary:On May 4, Seaboard Marine, Ltd. (Seaboard), Miami, FL, was ordered by a U.S. District Court judge in Miami, FL to pay $305,000 in fines restitution, and community service payments for the illegal transportation of HazMat. Seaboard admitted to transporting hazardous cargo (e.g., phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, and potassium hydroxide) to various locations in the Miami-Dade County area in 2002 in violation hazmat transportation regulations. Laparkin Trading Limited Company in Miami (one of the locations to which the HazMat was taken by Seaboard) pled guilty to related charges in March 2005 and awaits sentencing later this month. The investigation is being conducted jointly with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Miami-Dade Police Department, with assistance from FMCSA.
