TO: Printing and Publishing Officials of the Federal Government
SUBJECT: Closure of GPO Field Printing Plants
Effective August 2, 1996, the Government Printing Office (GPO) closed its in-house printing operations in Chicago, Illinois, and New York, New York. The printing operation in San Francisco, California, will close on August 30, 1996, and the Juneau, Alaska, field plant will be closed effective October 31, 1996.
These cost-cutting initiatives should have no detrimental effect on agencies whose needs have been met by these plants, as individual regional customers have been so advised. Rather, GPO is committed to providing continued, complete, cost-effective service through appropriate commercial contracts. We will continue to assure the effectiveness of these contracts by tailoring their provisions to the individual and specific needs of the originating organizations.
If you have previously relied on these plants for service and were not notified of their closures, please contact the respective Regional Procurement Offices in Chicago, New York, and San Francisco concerning those entities. With regard to the Juneau plant, please contact the Seattle, Washington, facility. A listing of all GPO offices and points of contact is enclosed for your convenience.
