National Compensation Survey - Benefits produces comprehensive data on the incidence (the percentage of workers with access to and participation in employer provided benefit plans) and provisions of selected employee benefit plans.

Two-thirds of private industry and State and local government workers had access to retirement
benefits and nearly three-quarters to medical care in March 2008. Access and participation in
retirement and medical care benefits were greater in government than in private industry.

State and local government employees have access to a variety of benefits, including
retirement plans (89 percent) and health benefits (87 percent) according to the National
Compensation Survey. The report also includes data on life insurance, disability insurance,
and a number of other benefits.
