Title: Bioindicators of Sustainable Development Strategies in Subtropical Climates
Inter American University students partnered with the Center for Environmental Education Conservation and Research will study the effect of land development in Puerto Rico on the health of the flat tree oyster population. Decreased water quality often accompanies development; however, in Puerto Rico there have been few studies concretely showing a direct cause and effect relationship between land development and ecosystem health. For a place where tourism is dependent upon the quality of its natural bounty, this is a vital connection to show.
