MSHA announces additional hearing on proposed rule
for alcohol- and drug-free mines
Move provides additional opportunity for mining community to comment
ARLINGTON, Va. - The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) today announced that it will hold an additional hearing on the proposed rule for alcohol- and drug-free mines on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
During the newly scheduled hearing, the MSHA panel will be physically located at MSHA Headquarters, Twin Towers #2, 1100 Wilson Blvd., 25th Floor, Arlington, Va. Interested parties will be able to testify remotely from the following three locations: National Mine Health and Safety Academy, 1301 Airport Road, Beckley, W.Va.; Sheraton Birmingham Hotel, 2101 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. N., Medical Forum Auditorium, Birmingham, Ala.; and United Steelworkers Local Union #1938, 307 First St. N., Virginia, Minn.
MSHA held an initial hearing on Oct. 14 with the agency's panel accepting testimony in Washington D.C., while testimony also was taken from six additional locations throughout the country (Denver, Colo.; Beckley, W.Va.; Price, Utah; Madisonville, Ky.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Birmingham, Ala.).
The notice for the upcoming hearing and information on participating will be published in the Federal Register on Thursday, Oct. 23. Also, the comment period for the rule has been extended until Nov. 10, 2008.
