DoD Press Release #588-98 incorrectly listed 84 combat aircraft and 45 support aircraft (27 fixed wing and 18 rotary wing aircraft) going to the Gulf, for a total of 129 additional aircraft.
The total number of aircraft ordered to the Gulf by the Secretary of Defense's deployment order signed on Nov. 11, 1998, should have been reported as 139. The total number of combat aircraft should have been listed as 98 (84 fixed wing and 14 rotary wing aircraft). The total number of support aircraft should have been listed as 41 (37 fixed wing and 4 rotary wing aircraft).
This does not represent any additional deployment of U.S. aircraft to the Gulf region.
