To search for a Member of Congress, enter the Member's last name. Members of Congress are not referred to as Senator or Representative in the Congressional Record, but as Mr., Mrs., or Ms. The name will appear in all capital letters and be positioned flush left when a Member is speaking.
To search by page, enter the Congressional Record section, followed by the page number. Page numbers in the Congressional Record are marked by either the letter “S” for Senate pages, “H” for House pages, “D” for Daily Digest pages, and “E” for Extension of Remarks pages. When performing a page search in the Congressional Record, include the word “page”, the section, and page number. For example: “page H1234”.
To narrow a search, use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT, ADJ) and quotes around phrases. For example: "joint committee on printing" AND "staff director".
To find variations on words, truncation can be used. For example: legislat* will retrieve both legislation and legislative.
