Federal Railroad Administration and Preserve America

The B&O Railroad Station in Oakland, Maryland was built in 1884.

While the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) does not administer grant programs that specifically address historic preservation and the Preserve America initiative, FRA supports these goals. FRA considers environmental and preservation impacts in any proposed action and consults with Federal, State, and local authorities and the public early in the project planning process. The Railroad Rehabilitation & Improvement Financing Program, a loan program administered by FRA, may be used to rehabilitate intermodal or rail equipment and facilities and could potentially support preservation of historic structures.
