Asian and Pacific Islander Population In The United States: March 1994 1/

Detailed Tables

Line Divider

These tables present March 1994 Current Population Survey (CPS) data on the demographic, social and economic characteristics of the Asian and Pacific Islander population in the United States. Topics covered include geographic distribution, marital status, educational attainment, family and household type, labor force status, occupational distribution, earnings, family income, tenure, and poverty status. Data are presented for the United States and the West region.

Standard errors for estimated numbers and percentages are provided in summary tables 1 and 2, and in family and household tables 7 and 8. Parameters and factors for calculating additional standard errors may be obtained by contacting Claudette Bennett or Barbara Martin at (301) 457-2402.

1/ The independent estimate of 8.8 million for the Asian and Pacific Islander population differs substantially from the March 1994 Current Population Survey (CPS) estimate of 7.4 million for this population. The CPS estimate, based on a sample, is subject to both sampling and nonsampling errors. It is not controlled to independent estimates for this population. Estimates may differ because of different data collection and estimation procedures, and sampling error. However, distributions of characteristics for the Asian and Pacific Islander population in the March 1994 CPS appear reasonable when compared to the 1990 census distribution. When comparing data for the Asian and Pacific Islander population for previous years, caution should be used. All statistics are subject to sampling variability, as well as survey design flaws, respondent classification errors, and data processing mistakes.

Source and Accuracy Statement for Data from The Asian and Pacific Islander Population in the United States: March 1994

The data shown here are from the March 1994 Current Population Survey. All survey data are subject to sampling variability as well as survey design flaws, respondent classification errors, and data processing mistakes. The Census Bureau has taken steps to minimize errors, and analytical statements have been tested and meet statistical standards. However, because of methodological differences, use caution when comparing these data with data from other sources. Contact Andy Zbikowski, Demographic Statistical Methods Division at 301-457-4220 for information on the source of data and the accuracy of estimates, including the use and computation of standard errors.
